NDIS

There are exciting updates to the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) for children!

What is the NDIS - ECI ? Quick summary: "Early childhood intervention (ECI) is about giving your child the best possible start in life. If your child is younger than 9 you may be able to access our early childhood approach. Our nationally consistent early childhood approach is for children with developmental delays or disabilities." (NDIS Website)

NDIS CHANGE SUMMARY:

  • Age Expansion: The NDIS early childhood approach will now support children younger than 9, providing extended assistance during and after their transition to primary school. (Increase from age 6 to 9)

  • Transition Period: The age change will be implemented over the next 2 years, ensuring a smooth process for existing participants.

  • Current Participants: Children currently in the NDIS program who turn 7 after July 1, 2023, will continue with their early childhood partner until they turn 9, if needed. Those turning 7 before July 1, 2023, will transition to a local area coordination partner, as per the current process.

  • New Participants: From July 1, 2023, children younger than 9 with a permanent disability will be supported by an early childhood partner upon entry into the NDIS.

  • No Eligibility Changes: NDIS eligibility requirements and the definition of developmental delay under early intervention remain unchanged.

  • Early Childhood Partners: Children younger than 6 with a permanent disability, developmental delay, or concerns will continue to be supported by early childhood partners

  • Seeking Support: If you have concerns about your child's development, consult with your healthcare provider or education professional, who can connect you with the appropriate supports.
